A man bought palm trees from another man, but the trees produced nothing that year. The two of them came together and brought their dispute before the Prophet ﷺ.The Prophet ﷺ said, "By what right do you keep his money? Return his dirhams to him, and do not enter into an advance sale on palm trees until their soundness becomes apparent."I asked Masruq, "What is their soundness?"He replied, "When they turn red or yellow."

ابتاع رجل من رجل نخلا فلم يخرج تلك السنة شيئا فاجتمعا فاختصما إلى النبي ﷺ فقال النبي ﷺ بم تستحل دراهمه اردد إليه دراهمه ولا تسلمن في نخل حتى يبدو صلاحه فسألت مسروقا ما صلاحه قال يحمار أو يصفار
Its isnad is daif, due to the unknown identity of the Najrani who narrated it from Ibn Umar. Here, "the Najrani" is not the name of a specific man, but rather an unknown man from Najran.This hadith has already appeared in similar form and meaning, in abbreviated version, through the narration of Waki from Israil from Abu Ishaq from the Najrani, 5236. It has also already appeared in similar form, along with another hadith about drinking and flogging for it, through the narration of Yazid bin Harun, 5067, and through the narration of Muhammad bin Jafar, 5129, both of them from Shubah from Abu Ishaq from a man from Najran. And the part of it relating to drinking alone has already appeared, through the narration of Waki from Thawri from Abu Ishaq from the Najrani, 4786, 5223.
