Its isnad is sahih. The uncertainty in the two chains as to whether Umar bin Muhammad narrated it from his father Muhammad bin Zayd or from his father's paternal uncle Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar does not affect its soundness, for it is simply a shift from one reliable narrator to another. The stronger view in my opinion is that this doubt originates from Asim bin Muhammad when he narrated it from his brother Umar, because Shubah narrated it from Umar, from his father Muhammad bin Zayd, from Ibn Umar, without any doubt, as noted previously at 5576, and as Muslim narrated it in his Sahih 2:185 through the route of Shubah. Its meaning has also occurred earlier in the narration of Nafi from Ibn Umar at 4719, and through the route of Sulayt from Ibn Umar at 6010."The lafh of Hell" means its heat and blaze. In H it appears as "fayh," which is the reading given in the margin of M, and we have adopted what appears in K and M.
