Abdullah bin Umar came to Ibn Mutee, who said, "Bring a cushion for Abu Abdul-Rahman."Abdullah replied, "I have not come to sit with you. I have come only to tell you something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard him say, 'Whoever withdraws his hand from obedience or separates from the community dies the death of the days of ignorance.'"
Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad bin Mutarrif bin Dawud Al-Laythi, Abu Ghassan Al-Madani, was one of the reliable scholars, trustworthy. He was deemed trustworthy by Yazid bin Harun, Ahmad, Ibn Main, Abu Hatim, and others. Bukhari gave his biography in Al-Kabir as Mutarrif, with the mim vowelled with damma, the plain ta with fatha, and the ra doubled and vowelled with kasra, as it is also recorded in Al-Mushtabih and Al-Mughni. The hadith appears abridged at 5718, and in full at 5386 and 6048. His statement "the death of the Jahiliyyah" appears in a manuscript in the margin of K and M as "the Jahiliyyah."
