The Prophet ﷺ had a ring of gold made and wore it, so the people had rings of gold made for themselves as well. The Prophet ﷺ then stood and said, "I used to wear this ring, but I will never wear it again." He cast it aside, and the people cast aside their rings as well.
حدثنا سليمان بن داود الهاشمي حدثنا إسماعيل يعني ابن جعفر أخبرني ابن دينار
عن النبي ﷺ أنه اتخذ خاتما من ذهب فلبسه فاتخذ الناس خواتيم الذهب فقام النبي ﷺ فقال إني كنت ألبس هذا الخاتم وإني لن ألبسه أبدا فنبذه فنبذ الناس خواتيمهم
