Ayesha wanted to buy Barirah, but her owners refused to sell her unless they retained the right of guardianship over her. Ayesha mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of guardianship belongs to the one who pays the price."
حدثنا يزيد عن همام عن نافع
أن عائشة أرادت أن تشتري بريرة فأبى أهلها أن يبيعوها إلا أن يكون لهم ولاؤها فذكرت ذلك عائشة للنبي ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ اشتريها فأعتقيها فإنما الولاء لمن أعطى الثمن
