We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the foot of a mountain. He was standing in prayer while the rest of us were asleep. Suddenly a snake passed by him. We woke up, and he was saying, "What protected you from it is the same that protected it from you."At that moment there was revealed to him "By those sent forth in succession, and those that blow violently" [Mursalat 77:1–2]. I caught the snake while the verse was still fresh on his lips, or while his lips were still moist with its recitation.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة أنبأنا عاصم بن بهدلة عن زر بن حبيش
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفح جبل وهو قائم يصلي وهم نيام قال إذ مرت به حية فاستيقظنا وهو يقول منعها منكم الذي منعكم منها وأنزلت عليه {والمرسلات عرفا فالعاصفات عصفا} فأخذتها وهي رطبة بفيه أو فوه رطب بها
