Walid bin Uqba once delayed the prayer, so Abdullah bin Masud stood up, called the iqama, and led the people in prayer. Walid sent word to him asking, "What made you do what you did? Did a command come to you from the Commander of the Faithful regarding what you did, or did you invent this on your own?"He replied, "No command came to me from the Commander of the Faithful, nor did I invent anything. But Allah and His Messenger have refused to allow us to delay our prayer waiting for you while you are occupied with your own affairs."

أن الوليد بن عقبة أخر الصلاة مرة فقام عبد الله بن مسعود فثوب بالصلاة فصلى بالناس فأرسل إليه الوليد ما حملك على ما صنعت أجاءك من أمير المؤمنين أمر فيما فعلت أم ابتدعت قال لم يأتني أمر من أمير المؤمنين ولم أبتدع ولكن أبى الله عز وجل علينا ورسوله أن ننتظرك بصلاتنا وأنت في حاجتك

Its isnad is sahih. Qasim is the son of Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Masud. The hadith is in Majma al-Zawaid 1:324, where it says, Ahmad and Tabarani in al-Kabir narrated it, and its men are trustworthy. See also 3790, 3889, 4030.
