Umar sat in a place where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sit, and funeral processions were passing by him.A funeral passed, and the people praised the deceased with good words. Umar said, "It has become certain."Then another funeral passed, and they praised the deceased with good words. He said, "It has become certain."Then another funeral passed, and they spoke well of the deceased. He said, "It has become certain."Then another funeral passed, and they said, "This man was the greatest liar among people." He said, "The greatest liars are those who lie about Allah, then those next to them are those who lie about their own soul within their body."They asked, "What if four people bear witness?"He said, "It has become certain."They asked, "Or three?"He said, "Three as well, it has become certain."They asked, "And two?"He said, "It has become certain. And had I said even one, that would be dearer to me than red camels."It was said to Umar, "Is this something you say from your own opinion, or something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "No, rather I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
