When Uthman bin Mazun died, his wife said, "Congratulations to you, son of Mazun, on Paradise."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at her with a glance of anger and said to her, "How do you know? By Allah, I am the Messenger of Allah, yet I do not know what will be done with me." Affan added, "Nor with him."She said, "Messenger of Allah, but he is your knight and your companion."This weighed heavily upon the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said this about Uthman, for he was among the best of them. Then Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died, and he said, "Join our righteous predecessor, Uthman bin Mazun."The women began to weep, and Umar started striking them with his whip. The Prophet ﷺ said to Umar, "Let them weep, but beware of the wailing of Satan."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whatever comes from the heart and the eye is from Allah and from mercy, but whatever comes from the hand and the tongue is from Satan."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat at the edge of the grave, with Fatimah beside him weeping, and the Prophet ﷺ began to wipe Fatimah's eyes with his garment out of compassion for her.
حدثنا عبد الصمد وحسن بن موسى قالا حدثنا حماد عن علي بن زيد قال أبي حدثنا عفان حدثنا ابن سلمة أخبرنا علي بن زيد عن يوسف بن مهران
لما مات عثمان بن مظعون قالت امرأته هنيئا لك يا ابن مظعون بالجنة قال فنظر إليها رسول الله ﷺ نظرة غضب فقال لها ما يدريك فوالله إني لرسول الله وما أدري ما يفعل بي قال عفان ولا به قالت يا رسول الله فارسك وصاحبك فاشتد ذلك على أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ حين قال ذلك لعثمان وكان من خيارهم حتى ماتت رقية ابنة رسول الله ﷺ فقال الحقي بسلفنا الخير عثمان بن مظعون قال وبكت النساء فجعل عمر يضربهن بسوطه فقال النبي ﷺ لعمر دعهن يبكين وإياكن ونعيق الشيطان ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ مهما يكن من القلب والعين فمن الله والرحمة ومهما كان من اليد واللسان فمن الشيطان وقعد رسول الله ﷺ على شفير القبر وفاطمة إلى جنبه تبكي فجعل النبي ﷺ يمسح عين فاطمة بثوبه رحمة لها
