Ubaydullah bin Abdullah reported,

Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughira set out with Ali bin Abu Talib for Yemen, and he sent word to Fatimah bint Qays pronouncing the one divorce that remained of her divorce. He instructed Harith bin Hisham and Ayyash bin Abu Rabia to provide her maintenance.They said to her, "By Allah, you are entitled to no maintenance unless you are pregnant."So she went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what they had said.He said, "You have no right to maintenance unless you are pregnant."She then asked his permission to move from the house, and he granted it.She asked, "Where do you think I should go, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "To Ibn Umm Maktum." Ibn Umm Maktum was blind, so she could take off her outer garments in his presence without his seeing her.When her waiting period was over, the Prophet ﷺ married her to Usama bin Zayd.Later Marwan sent Qabisa bin Zuayb to her to ask her about this account, and she related it to him.Marwan said, "We have not heard this account from anyone but a woman. We will hold to the practice we found the people following."When Marwan's words reached her, Fatimah said, "Let the Quran decide between me and you. Allah said, 'Do not expel them from their houses, nor should they leave, unless they commit a flagrant indecency'" [Talaq 65:1], continuing until she reached "perhaps Allah will bring about a new situation after that" [Talaq 65:1].She said, "This applies to a man who still has the option of taking his wife back. But what new situation can come about after the third divorce?"

أن أبا عمرو بن حفص بن المغيرة خرج مع علي بن أبي طالب إلى اليمن فأرسل إلى فاطمة بنت قيس بتطليقة كانت بقيت من طلاقها وأمر لها الحارث بن هشام وعياش بن أبي ربيعة بنفقة فقالا لها والله ما لك من نفقة إلا أن تكوني حاملا فأتت النبي ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له قولهما فقال لا إلا أن تكوني حاملا واستأذنته للانتقال فأذن لها فقالت أين ترى يا رسول الله قال إلى ابن أم مكتوم وكان أعمى تضع ثيابها عنده ولا يراها فلما مضت عدتها أنكحها النبي ﷺ أسامة بن زيد فأرسل إليها مروان قبيصة بن ذؤيب يسألها عن هذا الحديث فحدثته به فقال مروان لم نسمع بهذا الحديث إلا من امرأة سنأخذ بالعصمة التي وجدنا الناس عليها فقالت فاطمة حين بلغها قول مروان بيني وبينكم القرآن قال الله عز وجل {لا تخرجوهن من بيوتهن ولا يخرجن إلا أن يأتين بفاحشة} حتى بلغ {لعل الله يحدث بعد ذلك أمرا} قالت هذا لمن كان له مراجعة فأي أمر يحدث بعد الثلاث
