Fatimah bint Qays, the sister of Dahhak bin Qays, reported that she had been married to a man from the tribe of Makhzum. She said that he divorced her three times, then went off on a military campaign, leaving instructions with his agent to provide her with some maintenance. She found it inadequate, so she went to the home of one of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ.The Prophet ﷺ entered while Fatimah was there, and his wife said, "Messenger of Allah, this is Fatimah bint Qays. So-and-so divorced her, and he sent her some maintenance which she refused, and he claims that what he sent was something extra he was giving her as a favor."The Prophet ﷺ said, "He has spoken the truth."Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Move to the house of Ibn Umm Maktum."Ubayy said, and al-Khaffaf said, "Umm Kulthum, and observe your waiting period there."Then he said, "No, Umm Kulthum has too many visitors. Rather, move to the house of Abdullah bin Umm Maktum, for he is blind."So she moved to Abdullah's house and observed her waiting period there until it was complete. Then Abu Jahm and Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan proposed to her, and she came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to seek his counsel about them.He said, "As for Abu Jahm, I fear for you his quickness with the stick," or he said, "I fear his striking with the stick. As for Muawiya, he is a man stripped bare of wealth."So she married Usama bin Zayd after that.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا ابن جريج قال أخبرني عطاء قال أخبرني
أن فاطمة بنت قيس أخت الضحاك بن قيس أخبرته وكانت عند رجل من بني مخزوم فأخبرته أنه طلقها ثلاثا وخرج إلى بعض المغازي وأمر وكيلا له أن يعطيها بعض النفقة فاستقلتها وانطلقت إلى إحدى نساء النبي ﷺ فدخل النبي ﷺ وهي عندها فقالت يا رسول الله هذه فاطمة بنت قيس طلقها فلان فأرسل إليها ببعض النفقة فردتها وزعم أنه شيء تطول به قال صدق فقال النبي ﷺ انتقلي إلى منزل ابن أم مكتوم و قال أبي وقال الخفاف أم كلثوم فاعتدي عندها ثم قال لا أم كلثوم يكثر عوادها ولكن انتقلي إلى عبد الله بن أم مكتوم فإنه أعمى فانتقلت إلى عبد الله فاعتدت عنده حتى انقضت عدتها ثم خطبها أبو جهم ومعاوية بن أبي سفيان فجاءت رسول الله ﷺ تستأمره فيهما فقال أبو جهم أخاف عليك قسقاسته للعصا أو قال أخاف قصقاصته للعصا وأما معاوية فرجل أخلق من المال فتزوجت أسامة بن زيد بعد ذلك
