My husband went out in search of some slaves of his and caught up with them at the edge of Qadum, where they killed him. The news of his death reached me while I was in a house far from the houses of my family. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned this to him.I said, "The news of my husband's death reached me while I was in a house far from the houses of my family. He left me no provision and no wealth for his heirs, and the dwelling is not his. If I moved to my family and my maternal uncles, it would be more convenient for me in some of my affairs."He said, "Move."When I went out to the mosque, or to the chamber, he called me, or he ordered that I be called, and I was summoned. He said, "Stay in the house where the news of your husband's death reached you until the prescribed term is fulfilled."She said, "So I observed my waiting period there for four months and ten days."She said, "Uthman sent for me, and I informed him of this, and he ruled accordingly."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن سعد بن إسحاق قال حدثتني زينب بنت كعب
خرج زوجي في طلب أعلاج له فأدركهم بطرف القدوم فقتلوه فأتاني نعيه وأنا في دار شاسعة من دور أهلي فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له فقلت إن نعي زوجي أتاني في دار شاسعة من دور أهلي ولم يدع لي نفقة ولا مالا لورثته وليس المسكن له فلو تحولت إلى أهلي وأخوالي لكان أرفق بي في بعض شأني قال تحولي فلما خرجت إلى المسجد أو إلى الحجرة دعاني أو أمر بي فدعيت فقال امكثي في بيتك الذي أتاك فيه نعي زوجك حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله قالت فاعتددت فيه أربعة أشهر وعشرا قالت فأرسل إلي عثمان فأخبرته فأخذ به
