Umm Rumman said, "Ayesha and I were sitting together when a woman from the Ansar came in and said, 'May Allah do such and such to so-and-so!' meaning her own son.I asked her, 'Why do you say that?'She replied, 'My son was among those who spread the story.'I said, 'What story?'She told me it was such and such.Ayesha asked, 'Did Abu Bakr hear of this?'She said, 'Yes.'Ayesha asked, 'Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hear of it?'She said, 'Yes.'At that Ayesha collapsed in a faint. When she came to, she was gripped by a fever with violent shivering, so I piled clothes over her.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in and asked, 'What is wrong with her?'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, a fever with shivering has taken hold of her.'He said, 'Perhaps it is because of the story people are telling.'I said, 'Yes, Messenger of Allah.'Then Ayesha lifted her head and said, 'If I speak, you will not excuse me, and if I swear an oath, you will not believe me. My situation and yours is like that of Yaqub and his sons, when he said, "So patience is beautiful, and Allah is the one whose help is sought against what you describe" [Yusuf 12:18].'"When the verses declaring her innocence were revealed, the Prophet ﷺ came to her and told her the news.She said, "Praise belongs to Allah, not to you," or she said, "and not to anyone else."
حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم قال حدثنا أبو جعفر يعني الرازي عن حصين عن شقيق بن سلمة عن مسروق
كنت أنا وعائشة قاعدة فدخلت امرأة من الأنصار فقالت فعل الله بفلان وفعل تعني ابنها قالت فقلت لها وما ذلك قالت ابني كان فيمن حدث الحديث قالت فقلت لها وما الحديث قالت كذا وكذا فقالت عائشة أسمع بذلك أبو بكر قالت نعم قالت أسمع بذلك رسول الله ﷺ قالت نعم فوقعت أو سقطت مغشيا عليها فأفاقت حمى بنافض فألقيت عليها الثياب فدخل رسول الله ﷺ فقال ما لهذه قالت فقلت يا رسول الله أخذتها حمى بنافض قال لعله من الحديث الذي تحدث به قالت قلت نعم يا رسول الله فرفعت عائشة رأسها وقالت إن قلت لم تعذروني وإن حلفت لم تصدقوني ومثلي ومثلكم كمثل يعقوب وبنيه حين قال {فصبر جميل والله المستعان على ما تصفون} فلما نزل عذرها أتاها النبي ﷺ فأخبرها بذلك فقالت بحمد الله لا بحمدك أو قالت ولا بحمد أحد
