The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited her and called for a drink. He drank from it and then handed it to her, and she drank as well.She said, "Messenger of Allah, I was actually fasting."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "One who is observing a voluntary fast is in charge of himself. If he wishes, he may continue his fast, and if he wishes, he may break it."He said, I asked him, "Did you hear this directly from Umm Hani?"He said, "No. Abu Salih and our family narrated it to me from Umm Hani."Sulayman narrated to us, saying, Shuba narrated to us, saying, I used to hear Simak say, "The son of Umm Hani narrated to us." So I went to the better and more virtuous of her two sons and questioned him. He was the one called Jadah.
حدثنا أبو داود الطيالسي قال حدثنا شعبة عن جعدة
أن رسول الله ﷺ دخل عليها فدعا بشراب فشرب ثم ناولها فشربت فقالت يا رسول الله أما إني كنت صائمة فقال رسول الله ﷺ الصائم المتطوع أمير نفسه إن شاء صام وإن شاء أفطر قال قلت له سمعته أنت من أم هانئ قال لا حدثنيه أبو صالح وأهلنا عن أم هانئ حدثنا سليمان قال حدثنا شعبة قال كنت أسمع سماكا يقول حدثنا ابن أم هانئ فأتيت أنا خيرهما وأفضلهما فسألته وكان يقال له جعدة
