Abdullah bin Abbas and Abu Hurairah were asked about a woman whose husband had died.Ibn Abbas said, "She must wait the longer of the two terms."Abu Hurairah said, "Once she gives birth, she is free to remarry."So Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman went to Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and asked her about this. She said, "Sabia al-Aslamiyya gave birth half a month after her husband's death. Two men proposed to her, one young and the other older. She inclined toward the young man, so the older man said, 'You are not yet free to remarry.' Her family was away, and he hoped that when they returned they would favor him. So she went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'You are free to remarry, so marry whomever you wish.'"
