A woman's husband died, and her family feared for her eyesight, so they came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked his permission for her to use kohl.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In the past, one of you would stay shut in her house in her coarse worn garments, or in the shabbiest of her garments, for a whole year, and when a dog passed by she would fling a piece of dung and then come out. Can she not manage four months and ten days?"
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة وحجاج قال حدثني شعبة عن حميد بن نافع قال
أن امرأة توفي زوجها فخافوا على عينها فأتوا النبي ﷺ فاستأذنوه في الكحل فقال رسول الله ﷺ قد كانت إحداكن تكون في بيتها في أحلاسها أو في شر أحلاسها في بيتها حولا فإذا مر كلب رمت ببعرة فخرجت فلا أربعة أشهر وعشرا
