One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to me from a funeral at al-Baqi while I was suffering from a headache, and I was saying, "Oh, my head!"He said, "Rather, I should be the one saying, 'Oh, my head!' What harm would it do you if you died before me, so that I washed you, shrouded you, prayed over you, and buried you?"I said, "But I, by Allah, it is as if I can see you. If you did that, you would return to my house and spend the night there as a bridegroom with one of your wives."She said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled, and then began the illness from which he died.
حدثنا محمد بن سلمة عن محمد بن إسحاق عن يعقوب بن عتبة عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله
رجع إلي رسول الله ﷺ ذات يوم من جنازة بالبقيع وأنا أجد صداعا في رأسي وأنا أقول وا رأساه قال بل أنا وا رأساه قال ما ضرك لو مت قبلي فغسلتك وكفنتك ثم صليت عليك ودفنتك قلت لكني أو لكأني بك والله لو فعلت ذلك لقد رجعت إلى بيتي فأعرست فيه ببعض نسائك قالت فتبسم رسول الله ﷺ ثم بدئ بوجعه الذي مات فيه
