When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, his companions fell ill. Abu Bakr fell ill, along with Amir bin Fuhayrah, the freed slave of Abu Bakr, and Bilal. Ayesha asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to visit them, and he granted her permission.She asked Abu Bakr, "How are you feeling?"He replied, "Every man rises in the morning among his family, yet death is closer to him than the strap of his sandal."She asked Amir, and he said, "I have tasted death before tasting it. Truly, the coward's doom descends upon him from above."She asked Bilal, and he said, "Oh, would that I knew whether I shall spend a night in the valley of Mecca with idhkhir and jalil grasses around me."So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what they had said. He looked up to the sky and said, "O Allah, make Medina beloved to us as you made Mecca beloved to us, and even more so. Bless us in its sa and its mudd, and transfer its fever to Mahyaah," which is al-Juhfah, as they claim.
حدثنا حجاج قال حدثنا ليث حدثني يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي بكر بن إسحاق بن يسار عن عبد الله بن عروة عن عروة
لما قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة اشتكى أصحابه واشتكى أبو بكر وعامر بن فهيرة مولى أبي بكر وبلال فاستأذنت رسول الله ﷺ عائشة في عيادتهم فأذن لها فقالت لأبي بكر كيف تجدك فقال كل امرئ مصبح في أهله والموت أدنى من شراك نعله وسألت عامرا فقال وجدت الموت قبل ذوقه إن الجبان حتفه من فوقه وسألت بلالا فقال ألا ليت شعري هل أبيتن ليلة بفج وحولي إذخر وجليل فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فأخبرته بقولهم فنظر إلى السماء ثم قال اللهم حبب إلينا المدينة كما حببت إلينا مكة وأشد وبارك لنا في صاعها ومدها وانقل وباءها إلى مهيعة وهي الجحفة كما زعموا
