Abu Hurairah used to say that whoever wakes up in the state of major ritual impurity has no valid fast for that day.Marwan bin Hakam sent me along with another man to Ayesha and Umm Salama to ask them about a person who wakes up during Ramadan in a state of major ritual impurity before having performed the ritual bath. One of them said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wake up in a state of major ritual impurity, then perform the ritual bath and complete his fast for that day."The other said, "He would wake up in such a state without having had a wet dream, and he would still complete his fast."The two messengers returned and informed Marwan of what the women had said. Marwan then said to Abdul-Rahman, "Tell Abu Hurairah what they said."When informed, Abu Hurairah said, "That is what I had assumed, and that is what I had thought."Marwan said to him, "Do you give religious rulings to people based on what you assume and what you think?"
