Umm Salama was with us when the Prophet ﷺ came at the fall of night. She mentioned something he did with his hand, and he did not notice Umm Salama. She kept gesturing to him until he noticed her.Umm Salama said, "Is this how it is now? Whenever any one of us was alone with you, it was only in private affection, as I see."Then she insulted Ayesha. The Prophet ﷺ kept telling her to stop, but she refused. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Ayesha, "Insult her back."Ayesha then insulted her until she overcame her. Umm Salama went off to Ali and Fatimah and said, "Ayesha insulted me and said such-and-such to you, and such-and-such to you."Ali said to Fatimah, "Go to him and tell him that Ayesha said such-and-such to us and such-and-such to us."So Fatimah came to him and mentioned that to him. The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "She is the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Kaabah."She returned to Ali and told him what he had said. Ali said, "Was it not enough for you that Ayesha said such-and-such to us and such-and-such to us, until Fatimah came to you, and you said to her, 'She is the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Kaabah'?"
حدثنا عفان قال حدثني سليم بن أخضر قال حدثنا ابن عون قال حدثني علي بن زيد عن أم محمد امرأة أبيه
كانت عندنا أم سلمة فجاء النبي ﷺ عند جنح الليل قالت فذكرت شيئا صنعه بيده قالت وجعل لا يفطن لأم سلمة قالت وجعلت أومئ إليه حتى فطن قالت أم سلمة أهكذا الآن أما كانت واحدة منا عندك إلا في خلابة كما أرى وسبت عائشة وجعل النبي ﷺ ينهاها فتأبى فقال النبي ﷺ سبيها فسبتها حتى غلبتها فانطلقت أم سلمة إلى علي وفاطمة فقالت إن عائشة سبتها وقالت لكم وقالت لكم فقال علي لفاطمة اذهبي إليه فقولي إن عائشة قالت لنا وقالت لنا فأتته فذكرت ذلك له فقال لها النبي ﷺ إنها حبة أبيك ورب الكعبة فرجعت إلى علي فذكرت له الذي قال لها فقال أما كفاك إلا أن قالت لنا عائشة وقالت لنا حتى أتتك فاطمة فقلت لها إنها حبة أبيك ورب الكعبة
