She used to visit Ayesha, who said, "Umm Salama was with us when the Prophet ﷺ came in during the early part of the night." She mentioned something he did with his hand, and said that he took no notice of Umm Salama at all. "I kept gesturing to him," she said, "until he finally noticed."Umm Salama said, "So this is how it is now? Not one of us is ever with you but there is this coaxing and charm, as I see it."She then began reviling Ayesha, and the Prophet ﷺ kept telling her to stop, but she refused. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Ayesha, "Revile her back."Ayesha reviled her until she got the better of her. Umm Salama went off to Ali and Fatimah and said, "Ayesha reviled me, and she said this about you and that about you."Ali said to Fatimah, "Go to him and tell him that Ayesha said such and such to us."So she went to him and mentioned it, and the Prophet ﷺ said to her, "She is your father's beloved, by the Lord of the Kaaba."She returned to Ali and told him what he had said to her. So Ali said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Was it not enough for you that Ayesha said this and that to us, and then Fatimah came to you and you told her, 'She is your father's beloved, by the Lord of the Kaaba'?"
