Ibn Abu Mulayka reported,

Ayesha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ died in my house, on my day, between my chest and my throat. Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Bakr came in carrying a fresh tooth-stick, and the Prophet ﷺ looked at it. I thought he wanted it, so I took it, chewed on it to soften it, shook it out, freshened it, then handed it to him. He brushed his teeth with it more thoroughly than I had ever seen him brush before. Then he tried to lift it up to me, but it slipped from his hand.I began to invoke Allah with a supplication that Jibreel used to make for him, and which he himself used to recite whenever he fell ill, but he had not yet recited it during this final illness. He raised his gaze toward the sky and said, 'The highest companion, the highest companion,' meaning that his soul departed.So praise be to Allah, who joined my saliva with his on the last day of his life in this world."

عن ابن أبي مليكة قال

قالت عائشة مات رسول الله ﷺ في بيتي ويومي وبين سحري ونحري فدخل عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر ومعه سواك رطب فنظر إليه فظننت أن له فيه حاجة قالت فأخذته فمضغته ونفضته وطيبته ثم دفعته إليه فاستن كأحسن ما رأيته مستنا قط ثم ذهب يرفعه إلي فسقط من يده فأخذت أدعو الله عز وجل بدعاء كان يدعو له به جبريل عليه السلام وكان هو يدعو به إذا مرض فلم يدع به في مرضه ذلك فرفع بصره إلى السماء وقال الرفيق الأعلى الرفيق الأعلى يعني وفاضت نفسه فالحمد لله الذي جمع بين ريقي وريقه في آخر يوم من أيام الدنيا
