The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "This land is sacred. Allah declared it sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth, so it is sacred by Allah's decree until the Day of Resurrection. Fighting in it has not been permitted to anyone before me, nor will it be permitted to anyone after me until the Hour comes. It was made permissible for me only for an hour of one day. It is sacred by the decree of Allah until the Day of Resurrection. Its thorny shrubs are not to be cut, its fresh grass is not to be uprooted, its game is not to be startled, and its lost property is not to be picked up except by one who will announce it."Abbas, who was from the people of the land and knew what they could not do without, said, "Except for idhkhir grass, Messenger of Allah, for they cannot do without it. It is used for graves and houses."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Except for idhkhir."
