We were on a sea expedition, under the command of Abdullah bin Qays al-Fazari, and Abu Ayub al-Ansari was with us. He passed by the officer in charge of dividing the spoils, who had lined up the captives, and there was a woman weeping.Abu Ayub asked, "What is the matter with this woman?"They said, "They have separated her from her child."So he took the child by the hand and placed him in her hand. The officer in charge of the spoils went to Abdullah bin Qays and informed him, so he sent for Abu Ayub and said, "What made you do what you did?"He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever separates a mother from her child, Allah will separate him from his loved ones on the Day of Resurrection.'"
