Rabi bin Harash reported,

Someone whom I do not consider a liar, meaning Hudhayfah, told me that the Prophet ﷺ met Jibreel near the Stones of Mira.Jibreel said, "Your nation recites the Quran in seven modes. Whoever among them recites in one mode, let him recite as he was taught and not turn away from it."Ubayy said, and Ibn Mahdi said, "Among your nation are the weak, so whoever recites in one mode should not switch from it to another out of dislike for it."

عن ربعي بن حراش قال

حدثني من لم يكذبني يعني حذيفة قال لقي النبي ﷺ جبريل عليه السلام وهو عند أحجار المراء فقال إن أمتك يقرءون القرآن على سبعة أحرف فمن قرأ منهم على حرف فليقرأ كما علم ولا يرجع عنه قال أبي وقال ابن مهدي إن من أمتك الضعيف فمن قرأ على حرف فلا يتحول منه إلى غيره رغبة عنه
