He passed by a gathering in which people were criticizing Ali, so he stopped before them and said, "I once held something against Ali in my heart, and Khalid bin Walid felt the same way. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on a military expedition under the command of Ali, and we captured some prisoners. Ali took a slave girl from the fifth share for himself."He continued, "Khalid bin Walid said to me, 'Here is your chance against him.' When we returned to the Prophet ﷺ, I began telling him what had happened, then I said, 'Ali took a slave girl from the fifth share.' I was a man who used to keep his head lowered. I raised my head and saw that the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had changed, and he said, 'Whoever I am his ally, Ali is his ally.'"
