When the verse concerning debt was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The first to deny was Adam," or "The first to deny was Adam. When Allah created Adam, He wiped his back and brought forth from it all his descendants who would exist until the Day of Resurrection. He began presenting his offspring to him, and Adam saw among them a man who shone with light.Adam asked, 'My Lord, who is this?'Allah replied, 'This is your son Dawud.'Adam asked, 'My Lord, how long will he live?'Allah said, 'Sixty years.'Adam said, 'My Lord, increase his lifespan.'Allah said, 'No, unless you give him some of your own.'Adam's lifespan was a thousand years, so he gave Dawud forty years of it. Allah
recorded this in a document and had the angels witness it.When Adam was about to die and the angels came to take his soul, he said, 'Forty years of my life still remain.'He was told, 'You gave them to your son Dawud.'He replied, 'I did no such thing.'Then Allah
produced the document before him, and the angels bore witness against him."
