I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and one night I observed his prayer closely. He prayed the night prayer and then slept. When it was the middle of the night, he woke up, recited the last ten verses of Surah Al Imran, then used the tooth-stick, performed ablution, stood up, and prayed two rakahs. I could not tell which was longer, his standing, his bowing, or his prostration. Then he went back and slept. He woke up again, recited the verses, used the tooth-stick, performed ablution, stood up, and prayed two rakahs. I could not tell which was longer, his standing, his bowing, or his prostration. Then he went back and slept. He woke up and did the same thing again, and he kept doing as he had done the first time, until he had prayed eleven rakahs.
