Raiya Suhaymi reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to him on a piece of red leather. He took the letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and used it to patch his bucket. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a raiding party against him, and they left him with nothing, no roaming livestock, no grazing animals, no family, and no property, taking it all. He fled naked on a horse of his, without a stitch of clothing on him, until he reached his daughter, who was married into Banu Hilal. She had embraced Islam and her husband's family had embraced Islam as well. The men were gathered in the courtyard of her house, so he circled around and entered upon her from behind the house.When she saw him, she threw a garment over him and asked, "What is wrong with you?"He said, "Every misfortune has befallen your father. Nothing has been left to him, no roaming livestock, no grazing animals, no family, and no property, all of it has been taken."She said, "You were called to Islam."He asked, "Where is your husband?"She replied, "With the camels."He went to him, and her husband asked, "What is wrong with you?"He said, "Every misfortune has befallen me. Nothing has been left to me, no roaming livestock, no grazing animals, no family, and no property, all of it has been taken. I want to go to Muhammad and reach him before he distributes my family and my property."The husband said, "Take my mount with its saddle."He replied, "I have no need of it."So he took the shepherd's young camel and provided him with a waterskin of water. He had on a single garment such that when he covered his face with it, his backside was exposed, and when he covered his backside, his face was exposed. He did not want to be recognized.When he reached Medina, he hobbled his mount, then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and stood opposite him at the place where he prayed. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished the dawn prayer, he said, "Messenger of Allah, extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you."He extended it, but when the man was about to strike his hand upon it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew it. The Prophet ﷺ did this three times, withdrawing his hand each time the man tried.On the third time, he asked, "Who are you?"The man said, "Raiya Suhaymi."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took hold of his upper arm, raised it, and said, "Muslims, this is Raiya Suhaymi, the one to whom I wrote a letter, and he took my letter and patched his bucket with it."The man began to plead with him, saying, "Messenger of Allah, my family and my property!"He said, "As for your property, it has already been distributed. As for your family, whomever of them you can find, take them."He went out, and behold, his son was there, having recognized the mount and standing beside it. He returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "This is my son."He said, "Bilal, go out with him and ask him, 'Is this your father?' If he says yes, hand him over to him."Bilal went out to the boy and asked, "Is this your father?"He said, "Yes."Bilal returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have never seen anyone shed tears for his companion the way this one did."He said, "That is the harshness of the bedouins."

عن رعية السحيمي قال

كتب إليه رسول الله ﷺ في أديم أحمر فأخذ كتاب رسول الله ﷺ فرقع به دلوه فبعث رسول الله ﷺ سرية فلم يدعوا له رائحة ولا سارحة ولا أهلا ولا مالا إلا أخذوه وانفلت عريانا على فرس له ليس عليه قشرة حتى ينتهي إلى ابنته وهي متزوجة في بني هلال وقد أسلمت وأسلم أهلها وكان مجلس القوم بفناء بيتها فدار حتى دخل عليها من وراء البيت قال فلما رأته ألقت عليه ثوبا قالت ما لك قال كل الشر نزل بأبيك ما ترك له رائحة ولا سارحة ولا أهل ولا مال إلا وقد أخذ قالت دعيت إلى الإسلام قال أين بعلك قالت في الإبل قال فأتاه فقال ما لك قال كل الشر قد نزل به ما تركت له رائحة ولا سارحة ولا أهل ولا مال إلا وقد أخذ وأنا أريد محمدا أبادره قبل أن يقسم أهلي ومالي قال فخذ راحلتي برحلها قال لا حاجة لي فيها قال فأخذ قعود الراعي وزوده إداوة من ماء قال وعليه ثوب إذا غطى به وجهه خرجت استه وإذا غطى استه خرج وجهه وهو يكره أن يعرف حتى انتهى إلى المدينة فعقل راحلته ثم أتى رسول الله ﷺ فكان بحذائه حيث يصلي فلما صلى رسول الله ﷺ الفجر قال يا رسول الله ابسط يديك فلأبايعك فبسطها فلما أراد أن يضرب عليها قبضها إليه رسول الله ﷺ قال ففعل النبي ﷺ ذلك ثلاثا قبضها إليه ويفعله فلما كانت الثالثة قال من أنت قال رعية السحيمي قال فتناول رسول الله ﷺ عضده ثم رفعه ثم قال يا معشر المسلمين هذا رعية السحيمي الذي كتبت إليه فأخذ كتابي فرقع به دلوه فأخذ يتضرع إليه قلت يا رسول الله أهلي ومالي قال أما مالك فقد قسم وأما أهلك فمن قدرت عليه منهم فخرج فإذا ابنه قد عرف الراحلة وهو قائم عندها فرجع إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال هذا ابني فقال يا بلال اخرج معه فسله أبوك هذا فإن قال نعم فادفعه إليه فخرج بلال إليه فقال أبوك هذا قال نعم فرجع إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله ما رأيت أحدا استعبر إلى صاحبه فقال ذاك جفاء الأعراب
