Maez bin Malik came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Carry out the punishment of Allah's Book upon me."The Prophet ﷺ turned away from him four times, then ordered that he be stoned. When the stones struck him, Abdul-Rahman said, and Mura said, when the stones bit into him, he panicked and ran off fleeing. Abdullah bin Unays, or Anas bin Nadiyah, went out and threw the leg-bone of a donkey at him, knocking him down. He then came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why did you not leave him? Perhaps he would have repented and Allah would have accepted his repentance."Then he said, "Hezal, had you concealed him with your garment, it would have been better for you."
