Hezal had hired Maez bin Malik. He owned a slave-girl named Fatimah who had been given in marriage, and she used to graze their sheep. Maaz had relations with her, then he informed Hezal of what he had done.Hezal deceived him, telling him, "Go to the Prophet ﷺ and inform him. Perhaps a verse of the Quran will be revealed concerning you."The Prophet ﷺ then gave the order, and Maaz was stoned. When the stones struck him and caused him pain, he ran away. A man met him carrying the jawbone of a slaughtered camel, or the leg-bone of a camel, and struck him with it, knocking him down.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Woe to you, Hezal. Had you concealed him with your garment, it would have been better for you."

أن هزالا كان استأجر ماعز بن مالك وكانت له جارية يقال لها فاطمة قد أملكت وكانت ترعى غنما لهم وإن ماعزا وقع عليها فأخبر هزالا فخدعه فقال انطلق إلى النبي ﷺ فأخبره عسى أن ينزل فيك قرآن فأمر به النبي ﷺ فرجم فلما عضته مس الحجارة انطلق يسعى فاستقبله رجل بلحي جزور أو ساق بعير فضربه به فصرعه فقال النبي ﷺ ويلك يا هزال لو كنت سترته بثوبك كان خيرا لك
