Maez bin Malik was under his guardianship. When he committed fornication, he said to him, "Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and inform him."When Maez did so, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ later met him and said, "Hezal, had you covered him with your garment, it would have been better for you than what you did to him."

أن ماعز بن مالك كان في حجره قال فلما فجر قال له ائت رسول الله ﷺ فأخبره فقال رسول الله ﷺ له ولقيه يا هزال أما لو كنت سترته بثوبك لكان خيرا مما صنعت به
