They said to him, "Will you not go in to this man and speak with him?"He replied, "Do you think I do not speak to him unless you hear me? By Allah, I have indeed spoken to him privately, between him and me, without opening a matter that I do not wish to be the first to open. I will not tell any man who is a ruler over me that he is the best of people after I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and cast into the Fire. His intestines will spill out, and he will go around with them in the Fire as a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of the Fire will gather around him and say, So-and-so, did you not used to command us to do good and forbid us from evil? He will reply, Yes, I used to command good but not do it, and forbid evil while doing it myself.'"
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن شقيق
قالوا له ألا تدخل على هذا الرجل فتكلمه قال فقال ألا ترون أني لا أكلمه إلا أسمعكم والله لقد كلمته فيما بيني وبينه ما دون أن أفتح أمرا لا أحب أن أكون أنا أول من فتحه ولا أقول لرجل أن يكون علي أميرا إنه خير الناس بعد ما سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول يؤتى بالرجل يوم القيامة فيلقى في النار فتندلق أقتاب بطنه فيدور بها في النار كما يدور الحمار بالرحا قال فيجتمع أهل النار إليه فيقولون يا فلان أما كنت تأمرنا بالمعروف وتنهانا عن المنكر قال فيقول بلى قد كنت آمر بالمعروف ولا آتيه وأنهى عن المنكر وآتيه
