Abu Dharr used to speak harshly to Muawiya, so Muawiya complained about him to Ubada bin Samit, to Abu Darda, to Amr bin As, and to Umm Haram.He said to them, "You kept the Prophet's company just as he did, and you saw what he saw. So if you think it best, speak with him."Then he sent for Abu Dharr, and when he came they spoke with him.Abu Dharr said, "As for you, Abu Walid, you accepted Islam before me, and you have seniority and merit over me. I used to hold you in too high a regard to expect you at a gathering like this. As for you, Abu Darda, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ nearly passed away before you accepted Islam at all, and then you did accept it and became one of the righteous among the Muslims. As for you, Amr bin As, you fought in the cause alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. As for you, Umm Haram, you are only a woman, and your understanding is the understanding of a woman. And as for you, that is your own affair."Ubada then said, "There is no doubt about it, I will never sit in such a gathering again."
قال قرأت على أبي هذا الحديث فأقر به حدثني مهدي بن جعفر الرملي حدثني ضمرة عن أبي زرعة السيباني عن قنبر حاجب معاوية قال كان أبو ذر يغلظ لمعاوية قال فشكاه إلى عبادة بن الصامت وإلى أبي الدرداء وإلى عمرو بن العاص وإلى أم حرام فقال إنكم قد صحبتم كما صحب ورأيتم كما رأى فإن رأيتم أن تكلموه ثم أرسل إلى أبي ذر فجاء فكلموه فقال أما أنت يا أبا الوليد فقد أسلمت قبلي ولك السن والفضل علي وقد كنت أرغب بك عن مثل هذا المجلس وأما أنت يا أبا الدرداء فإن كادت وفاة رسول الله ﷺ أن تفوتك ثم أسلمت فكنت من صالحي المسلمين وأما أنت يا عمرو بن العاص فقد جاهدت مع رسول الله ﷺ وأما أنت يا أم حرام فإنما أنت امرأة وعقلك عقل امرأة وأما أنت وذاك قال فقال عبادة لا جرم لا جلست مثل هذا المجلس أبدا
