The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited Surah Bara'ah on a Friday while standing, reminding the people of the Days of Allah. Ubayy bin Kaab was directly facing the Prophet ﷺ, with Abu Darda and Abu Dharr beside him. One of the two nudged Ubayy bin Kaab and asked, "Ubayy, when was this surah revealed? I have not heard it until now."Ubayy gestured to him to be silent. When they had finished, the man said, "I asked you when this surah was revealed and you did not tell me."Ubayy replied, "You will get nothing from your prayer today except the idle talk you engaged in."So the man went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, mentioned what had happened, and told him what Ubayy had said.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ubayy has spoken the truth."
حدثنا عبد الله حدثني مصعب بن عبد الله الزبيري حدثنا عبد العزيز بن محمد عن شريك بن عبد الله بن أبي نمير عن عطاء بن يسار
أن رسول الله ﷺ قرأ يوم الجمعة براءة وهو قائم يذكر بأيام الله وأبي بن كعب وجاه النبي ﷺ وأبو الدرداء وأبو ذر فغمز أبي بن كعب أحدهما فقال متى أنزلت هذه السورة يا أبي فإني لم أسمعها إلا الآن فأشار إليه أن اسكت فلما انصرفوا قال سألتك متى أنزلت هذه السورة فلم تخبر قال أبي ليس لك من صلاتك اليوم إلا ما لغوت فذهبت إلى رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له وأخبرته بالذي قال أبي فقال صدق أبي
