On the day of Uhud, sixty-four men from the Ansar and six from the Muhajirun were killed. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If we ever have a day like this against the polytheists, we will far exceed them in retaliation."When the day of the Conquest came, a man said, "Let Quraysh not be known after this day."A herald of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then announced that everyone was granted safety, black and white alike, except for so-and-so and so-and-so, naming certain individuals. Then Allah revealed, "And if you punish, then punish with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you are patient, it is better for those who are patient" [Nahl 16:126].So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We will be patient and will not retaliate."
Its isnad is hasan, because of Isa bin Ubayd and Hadiyyah bin Abdul-Wahhab, both of whom are truthful narrators whose memory has been criticized. The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi 5/299, no. 3129, in the tafsir of Surah Nahl, where he said, hasan gharib, and by Hakim 2/359, with Dhahabi concurring with him, and by Bayhaqi in Dalail 3/289. This hadith is among the additions of Abdullah.
