On the day of Uhud, sixty-four men from the Ansar were killed and six from the Muhajirun, including Hamza, and their slain were mutilated. The Ansar said, "If we ever overcome them one day, we will outdo them in mutilation."When the day of the conquest of Mecca came, a man from among the people called out, "Quraysh shall be no more after today." Then Allah the Exalted revealed to His Prophet ﷺ, "And if you punish, then punish with the like of that with which you were afflicted" [Nahl 16:126].The Prophet of Allah ﷺ then said, "Hold back from the people."
حدثنا عبد الله حدثنا سعيد بن محمد الجرمي قدم من الكوفة حدثنا أبو نميلة حدثنا عيسى بن عبيد الكندي عن الربيع بن أنس حدثني أبو العالية
أنه أصيب يوم أحد من الأنصار أربعة وستون وأصيب من المهاجرين ستة وحمزة فمثلوا بقتلاهم فقالت الأنصار لئن أصبنا منهم يوما من الدهر لنربين عليهم فلما كان يوم فتح مكة نادى رجل من القوم لا يعرف لا قريش بعد اليوم فأنزل الله تعالى على نبيه ﷺ {وإن عاقبتم فعاقبوا بمثل ما عوقبتم به} الآية فقال نبي الله ﷺ كفوا عن القوم
