Ubayy bin Kaab reported,

They compiled the Quran into written copies during the caliphate of Abu Bakr . Men would write while Ubayy bin Kaab dictated to them. When they reached this verse of Surah Baraah, "Then they turn away. Allah has turned their hearts away, for they are a people who do not understand" [Tawbah 9:127], they supposed that this was the last of the Quran to be revealed.Ubayy bin Kaab said to them, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited to me two verses after it, 'There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your suffering, deeply concerned is he for you, and to the believers he is kind and merciful' [Tawbah 9:128] up to 'and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne' [Tawbah 9:129]." Then he said, "This is the last of the Quran to be revealed."So it was sealed with what it was opened with, with Allah, besides whom there is no god. And that is the word of Allah , "We sent no messenger before you except that We revealed to him that there is no god but I, so worship Me" [Anbiya 21:25].

عن أبي بن كعب

أنهم جمعوا القرآن في مصاحف في خلافة أبي بكر رضي الله عنه فكان رجال يكتبون ويملي عليهم أبي بن كعب فلما انتهوا إلى هذه الآية من سورة براءة {ثم انصرفوا صرف الله قلوبهم بأنهم قوم لا يفقهون} فظنوا أن هذا آخر ما أنزل من القرآن فقال لهم أبي بن كعب إن رسول الله ﷺ أقرأني بعدها آيتين {لقد جاءكم رسول من أنفسكم عزيز عليه ما عنتم حريص عليكم بالمؤمنين رءوف رحيم} إلى {وهو رب العرش العظيم} ثم قال هذا آخر ما أنزل من القرآن قال فختم بما فتح به بالله الذي لا إله إلا هو وهو قول الله تبارك وتعالى {وما أرسلنا من قبلك من رسول إلا نوحي إليه أنه لا إله إلا أنا فاعبدون}
