A man came to Umar to ask him for something, and Umar kept looking at his head and then at his feet, checking whether he showed any signs of poverty. Then Umar asked him, "How much wealth do you have?"The man replied, "Forty camels."Ibn Abbas said, "I then said, 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. If the son of Adam had two valleys of gold, he would seek a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and Allah turns in mercy to whoever repents.'"Umar asked, "What is this?"I said, "This is how Ubayy recited it to me."Umar said, "Then take us to him."So he went to Ubayy and said, "What is this man saying?"Ubayy replied, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited it to me."Umar asked, "Shall I record it then?" And so he recorded it.
