We came to visit Khabab bin Arat during his illness. He had been cauterized seven times on his abdomen. He said, "Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it, for my illness has dragged on."Then he said, "Our companions who passed on before us departed without the world diminishing any of their reward, but we have come into wealth after them for which we find no outlet except the dirt." He said this while he was building a wall of his. "Indeed, a Muslim is rewarded for everything he spends, except for what he puts into the dirt."He said, "We complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was reclining on a cloak of his in the shade of the Kaabah. We said, 'Messenger of Allah, will you not seek Allah's help for us?'"He sat up, his face flushed with anger, and said, "By Allah, among those before you a man would be taken and saws would be placed upon his head and he would be split into two pieces, yet that would not turn him from his religion. Allah
will surely bring this matter to completion, until a rider will travel between Sana and Hadramawt fearing none but Allah
, and the wolf for his sheep."
