The Messenger of Allah ﷺ received some property and distributed it, giving to some people and leaving out others. Jareer said, he gave to some men and left out others.Word reached him that those he had left out were displeased and had complained. So he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and glorified Him, then said, "I give to some people and leave out others. I give to some men and leave out others." Affan said, he said, "to such and such, and to such and such. Yet those I leave out are dearer to me than those I give to. I give to people because of the anxiety and panic in their hearts, and I entrust other people to the contentment and goodness Allah has placed in their hearts. Among them is Amr bin Taghlib."Amr bin Taghlib said, I was sitting directly in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "I would not trade the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for red camels."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا جرير بن حازم قال سمعت الحسن حدثنا
أن رسول الله ﷺ أتاه شيء فأعطاه ناسا وترك ناسا وقال جرير أعطى رجالا وترك رجالا قال فبلغه عن الذين ترك أنهم عتبوا وقالوا قال فصعد المنبر فحمد الله وأثنى عليه ثم قال إني أعطي ناسا وأدع ناسا وأعطي رجالا وأدع رجالا قال عفان قال ذي وذي والذي أدع أحب إلي من الذي أعطي أعطي أناسا لما في قلوبهم من الجزع والهلع وأكل قوما إلى ما جعل الله في قلوبهم من الغنى والخير منهم عمرو بن تغلب قال وكنت جالسا تلقاء وجه رسول الله ﷺ فقال ما أحب أن لي بكلمة رسول الله ﷺ حمر النعم
