I asked Ibn Abbas, "Did you attend the Eid prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "Yes, and were it not for my close relationship to him, I would not have attended due to my young age." He continued, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and prayed two units near the house of Kathir bin Salt, then delivered the sermon." Ati did not mention any adhan or iqamah.
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud (1:444-445) also related it, at greater length than here, from Muhammad bin Kathir from Sufyan Thawri, and it was also attributed in Dhakhair Mawarith (2854) to Bukhari and Nasai. See also 2004.Kathir bin Salt was a major follower of the companions. It is said that he was born during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. He was originally from Yemen, and he and his brothers emigrated to Madinah and settled there. Ibn Saad said in Tabaqat (5:7), He had a large house in Madinah at the prayer ground, and the direction of the prayer ground for the two Eid prayers faced toward it, and it opens onto the wadi valley bed in the middle of Madinah. See also Isabah (5:317) and Tahdheeb (8:419-420).In H it reads "Samit" instead of "Salt," which is an error, we have corrected it from K and from the rest of the references.
