Its chain of transmission is daif. Zama bin Salih al-Jundi was declared daif by Ahmad, Ibn Main, and Abu Dawud. Bukhari said in al-Kabir 1/2/412, "He contradicts others in his hadith, Ibn Mahdi eventually abandoned him." Nasai said in al-Duafa 13, "He is not strong, a Makkan, he makes many errors in narrating from Zuhri." Muslim included him, but only paired with another narrator.Zama narrated this hadith from two teachers, Amr bin Dinar from Ibn Abbas, and Salama bin Wahram from Ikrima from Ibn Abbas. Salama bin Wahram al-Yamani is trustworthy, Ibn Main and Abu Zura affirmed his reliability, while Abu Dawud declared him daif. The correct view is what Ibn Hibban said in al-Thiqat, "His hadith is considered reliable except when narrated through Zama bin Salih from him."Zama is spelled with a fatha on the zay and the ayn, with a silent meem between them, and Wahram is spelled with a fatha on the waw and the ra, with a silent ha between them.This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah 1:166 through the first route only, and by Bayhaqi 2:436-437 through both routes, each with its own chain of transmission.
