My father narrated to me in this masjid, meaning the masjid of Basra, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A group of my nation will settle in a land called Busayrah. Their numbers there will grow large, and their palm trees will grow many. Then the Banu Qantura will come, broad of face and small of eye, until they camp at a bridge of theirs called Tigris. The Muslims will then split into three groups. One group will take hold of the tails of the camels and head off into the desert, and it will perish. Another group will secure terms of safety for itself, and so it will fall into disbelief. This one and that one are alike. As for the third group, they will place their dependents behind their backs and fight, and those of them who are killed are martyrs, and Allah will grant victory to those who remain."
