My father narrated to me in this mosque, meaning the mosque of Basra, saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A group of my nation will settle in a land called Basra. Their numbers will grow there, and their date palms will multiply. Then the Banu Qantura will come, broad-faced and small-eyed, until they camp on a river of theirs called the Tigris. The Muslims will split into three groups.One group will cling to the tails of their camels and join the desert dwellers, and they will perish.Another group will save themselves by surrendering, and they will become disbelievers. This group and the first are alike.As for the third group, they will place their families behind their backs and fight. Those of them who are killed will be martyrs, and Allah will grant victory to the rest."

حدثني أبي في هذا المسجد يعني مسجد البصرة قال قال رسول الله ﷺ لتنزلن طائفة من أمتي أرضا يقال لها البصرة يكثر بها عددهم ويكثر بها نخلهم ثم يجيء بنو قنطوراء عراض الوجوه صغار العيون حتى ينزلوا على جسر لهم يقال له دجلة فيتفرق المسلمون ثلاث فرق فأما فرقة فيأخذون بأذناب الإبل وتلحق بالبادية وهلكت وأما فرقة فتأخذ على أنفسها فكفرت فهذه وتلك سواء وأما فرقة فيجعلون عيالهم خلف ظهورهم ويقاتلون فقتلاهم شهداء ويفتح الله على بقيتها
