He was once invited to give testimony, and when he came to the house, a man rose from his seat to offer it to him. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us, when a man rises from his seat for another, to sit in that seat, and he forbade a man from wiping his hand on the garment of one who does not own it."
حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم حدثنا شعبة عن عبد ربه بن سعيد قال سمعت مولى لآل أبي موسى الأشعري يكنى أبا عبد الله قال سمعت سعيد بن أبي الحسن البصري يحدث
أنه دعي إلى شهادة مرة فجاء إلى البيت فقام له رجل من مجلسه فقال نهانا رسول الله ﷺ إذا قام الرجل للرجل من مجلسه أن يجلس فيه وأن يمسح الرجل يده بثوب من لا يملك
Its isnad is daif, due to the obscurity of Abu Abdullah, the freedman of Abu Burda bin Abu Musa Ashari, as noted in Taqrib. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 4/259, no. 4827, in the book of manners, chapter on a man standing for another man. Hakim graded it sahih, 4/272, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
