Sharik bin Shihab reported,

I had long hoped to meet one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ who could tell me about the Khawarij. I met Abu Barzah on the day of Arafah among a group of his companions, so I said, "Abu Barzah, tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying about the Khawarij."He said, "I will tell you what my own ears heard and my own eyes saw. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some dinars and was distributing them. With him was a black man with shaved hair, wearing two white garments, with the mark of prostration between his eyes. He approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from in front, but he was given nothing. Then he came from behind, but again he was given nothing. So he said, 'By Allah, Muhammad, you have not been just in this distribution today.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became extremely angry, then said, 'By Allah, you will not find anyone after me more just to you than I am.' He said it three times.Then he said, 'There will come forth from the direction of the east some men. This man was one of them. Their guidance is like this. They will recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass out of the religion as the arrow passes through the prey, and they will not return to it.' He placed his hand upon his chest. 'Their distinguishing mark is the shaving of their heads. They will keep coming forth until the last of them comes out. When you see them, kill them.' He said it three times. 'They are the worst of creation and of creatures.' He said it three times."Hammad said, "They will not return to it."

حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة أخبرنا الأزرق بن قيس

عن شريك بن شهاب قال

كنت أتمنى أن ألقى رجلا من أصحاب النبي ﷺ يحدثني عن الخوارج فلقيت أبا برزة في يوم عرفة في نفر من أصحابه فقلت يا أبا برزة حدثنا بشيء سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ يقوله في الخوارج فقال أحدثك بما سمعت أذني ورأت عيناي أتي رسول الله ﷺ بدنانير فكان يقسمها وعنده رجل أسود مطموم الشعر عليه ثوبان أبيضان بين عينيه أثر السجود فتعرض لرسول الله ﷺ فأتاه من قبل وجهه فلم يعطه شيئا ثم أتاه من خلفه فلم يعطه شيئا فقال والله يا محمد ما عدلت منذ اليوم في القسمة فغضب رسول الله ﷺ غضبا شديدا ثم قال والله لا تجدون بعدي أحدا أعدل عليكم مني قالها ثلاثا ثم قال يخرج من قبل المشرق رجال كان هذا منهم هديهم هكذا يقرءون القرآن لا يجاوز تراقيهم يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق السهم من الرمية لا يرجعون إليه ووضع يده على صدره سيماهم التحليق لا يزالون يخرجون حتى يخرج آخرهم فإذا رأيتموهم فاقتلوهم قالها ثلاثا شر الخلق والخليقة قالها ثلاثا وقد قال حماد لا يرجعون فيه
