Julaybib was a man who used to enter upon women, passing by them and joking with them. So I said to my wife, "Do not let Julaybib come in to you, for if he does, I will surely do such and such."The Ansar had a custom that whenever one of them had an unmarried woman in his household, he would not give her in marriage until he knew whether the Prophet ﷺ had any interest in her or not.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man from the Ansar, "Give me your daughter in marriage."The man replied, "Yes, with honor, Messenger of Allah, and with the delight of my eye."The Prophet said, "I do not want her for myself."The man asked, "Then for whom, Messenger of Allah?"He answered, "For Julaybib."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, let me consult her mother."So he went to her mother and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is asking for your daughter's hand."She said, "Yes, with the delight of my eye."He said, "He is not asking for her for himself. He is asking for her for Julaybib."She exclaimed, "Julaybib? For Julaybib? For Julaybib? No, by the life of Allah, we will not marry her to him."When he was about to get up to go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to inform him of what the mother had said, the girl asked, "Who has asked for my hand?"Her mother told her, and she said, "Are you going to refuse the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Send me to him, for he will not waste me."So her father went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. The Prophet said, "She is yours to give." So he married her to Julaybib.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on one of his expeditions. After Allah granted him victory, he said to his companions, "Do you find anyone missing?"They said, "We are missing so-and-so, and so-and-so."He said, "Look again, do you find anyone missing?"They said, "No."He said, "But I find Julaybib missing. Search for him among the slain."They searched and found him beside seven men whom he had killed before they killed him. They said, "Messenger of Allah, here he is, beside seven whom he killed before they killed him."The Prophet ﷺ came to him and stood over him and said, "He killed seven and then they killed him. This one is from me and I am from him. This one is from me and I am from him," two or three times.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed him on his forearms, and a grave was dug for him. He had no bier except the forearms of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he placed him in his grave. It was not mentioned that he washed him.Thabit said, "There was no widow among the Ansar more sought after in marriage than she was."Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha related to Thabit, asking, "Do you know what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for her?" He said, "He prayed, 'O Allah, pour goodness upon her abundantly, and do not make her life one of hardship and toil.'"He said, "There was no widow among the Ansar more sought after in marriage than she was."Abu Abdul-Rahman said, "No one in the world has narrated this hadith except Hammad bin Salama. How excellent a hadith it is."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت عن كنانة بن نعيم العدوي
أن جليبيبا كان امرأ يدخل على النساء يمر بهن ويلاعبهن فقلت لامرأتي لا يدخلن عليكم جليبيب فإنه إن دخل عليكم لأفعلن ولأفعلن قال وكانت الأنصار إذا كان لأحدهم أيم لم يزوجها حتى يعلم هل للنبي ﷺ فيها حاجة أم لا فقال رسول الله ﷺ لرجل من الأنصار زوجني ابنتك فقال نعم وكرامة يا رسول الله ونعم عيني فقال إني لست أريدها لنفسي قال فلمن يا رسول الله قال لجليبيب قال فقال يا رسول الله أشاور أمها فأتى أمها فقال رسول الله ﷺ يخطب ابنتك فقالت نعم ونعمة عيني فقال إنه ليس يخطبها لنفسه إنما يخطبها لجليبيب فقالت أجليبيب ابنه أجليبيب ابنه أجليبيب ابنه لا لعمر الله لا تزوجه فلما أراد أن يقوم ليأتي رسول الله ﷺ ليخبره بما قالت أمها قالت الجارية من خطبني إليكم فأخبرتها أمها فقالت أتردون على رسول الله ﷺ أمره ادفعوني فإنه لم يضيعني فانطلق أبوها إلى رسول الله ﷺ فأخبره قال شأنك بها فزوجها جليبيبا قال فخرج رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة له قال فلما أفاء الله عليه قال لأصحابه هل تفقدون من أحد قالوا نفقد فلانا ونفقد فلانا قال انظروا هل تفقدون من أحد قالوا لا قال لكني أفقد جليبيبا قال فاطلبوه في القتلى قال فطلبوه فوجدوه إلى جنب سبعة قد قتلهم ثم قتلوه فقالوا يا رسول الله ها هو ذا إلى جنب سبعة قد قتلهم ثم قتلوه فأتاه النبي ﷺ فقام عليه فقال قتل سبعة وقتلوه هذا مني وأنا منه هذا مني وأنا منه مرتين أو ثلاثا ثم وضعه رسول الله ﷺ على ساعديه وحفر له ما له سرير إلا ساعدا رسول الله ﷺ ثم وضعه في قبره ولم يذكر أنه غسله قال ثابت فما كان في الأنصار أيم أنفق منها وحدث إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة ثابتا قال هل تعلم ما دعا لها رسول الله ﷺ قال اللهم صب عليها الخير صبا ولا تجعل عيشها كدا كدا قال فما كان في الأنصار أيم أنفق منها قال أبو عبد الرحمن ما حدث به في الدنيا أحد إلا حماد بن سلمة ما أحسنه من حديث
