Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman reported,

A man named Hammama, one of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, went out to Isfahan as a warrior during the caliphate of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. He said, "O Allah, Hammama claims that he loves to meet You. If Hammama is truthful, then grant him his truthfulness, and if he is lying, then take him even if he is unwilling. O Allah, do not return Hammama from this journey of his."Death seized him. Affan once said it was a stomach illness. He died in Isfahan.Abu Musa stood and said, "People, by Allah, in all that we heard from your Prophet ﷺ and in all that has reached our knowledge, Hammama is nothing but a martyr."

أن رجلا يقال له حممة كان من أصحاب محمد ﷺ خرج إلى أصبهان غازيا في خلافة عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه فقال اللهم إن حممة يزعم أنه يحب لقاءك فإن كان حممة صادقا فاعزم له صدقه وإن كان كاذبا فاعزم عليه وإن كره اللهم لا ترد حممة من سفره هذا قال فأخذه الموت وقال عفان مرة البطن فمات بأصبهان قال فقام أبو موسى فقال يا أيها الناس إنا والله ما سمعنا فيما سمعنا من نبيكم ﷺ وما بلغ علمنا إلا أن حممة شهيد
