I went out at the funeral of the daughter of Abdullah bin Abu Awfa, and he was on a mule of his that was hawa, meaning black. The women began saying to the one leading him, "Bring him forward, in front of the bier," and he did so.Then I heard him say to him, "Where is the bier?"He replied, "Behind you."He did this once or twice, then said, "Did I not forbid you to put me in front of the bier?"Then he heard a woman wailing, and once he said she was lamenting, so he said, "Hush! Did I not forbid you women from doing this? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid lamentations. Let any one of you pour out her tears as she wishes."When the bier was set down, he stepped forward and pronounced four takbirs over it, then he stood for a brief moment. Some of the people said "Subhan Allah" to him, and he turned around and said, "Did you think I was going to make a fifth takbir?"They said, "Yes."He said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pronounced the fourth takbir, he would stand for a brief moment."When the bier was set down, he sat and we sat with him. He was asked about the meat of domestic donkeys, and he said, "On the day of Khaybar, domestic donkeys came upon us as they were leaving the village. The people fell upon them and slaughtered them, and the cooking pots were boiling with some of the meat when the announcer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out, 'Pour them out!' So we poured them out."I saw upon Abdullah bin Abu Awfa a green silk Mutrafa.
حدثنا علي بن عاصم أخبرنا
خرجت في جنازة بنت عبد الله بن أبي أوفى وهو على بغلة له حواء يعني سوداء قال فجعل النساء يقلن لقائده قدمه أمام الجنازة ففعل قال فسمعته يقول له أين الجنازة قال فقال خلفك قال ففعل ذلك مرة أو مرتين ثم قال ألم أنهك أن تقدمني أمام الجنازة قال فسمع امرأة تلتدم وقال مرة ترثي فقال مه ألم أنهكن عن هذا إن رسول الله ﷺ كان ينهى عن المراثي لتفض إحداكن من عبرتها ما شاءت فلما وضعت الجنازة تقدم فكبر عليها أربع تكبيرات ثم قام هنيهة فسبح به بعض القوم فانفتل فقال أكنتم ترون أني أكبر الخامسة قالوا نعم قال إن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا كبر الرابعة قام هنية فلما وضعت الجنازة جلس وجلسنا إليه فسئل عن لحوم الحمر الأهلية فقال تلقانا يوم خيبر حمر أهلية خارجا من القرية فوقع الناس فيها فذبحوها فإن القدور لتغلي ببعضها إذ نادى منادي رسول الله ﷺ أهريقوها فأهرقناها ورأيت على عبد الله بن أبي أوفى مطرفا من خز أخضر
